Plantex S.A. is a Costa Rican company that produces Aralia (Fatsia japonica), Leather Leaf Fern (Rumohora adiantiformis) and Catpalm (Chamaedorea cataractarum).
Its farms are located on slopes of the Poás and Barva volcanoes, located in the mountains surrounding the Central Valley of Costa Rica, around San Jose, Alajuela and Heredia.
The cool climate and the volcanic soils plus the height above sea level in these farms are factors that help for the production of good quality of the three types of foliage produced by Plantex S.A.
Aralia (Fatsia japonica), the main product of Plantex SA, have special characteristics in terms of color, texture and size mix, which makes it a product that can be used for the elaboration of bouquets and other types of floral arrangements. In addition to these characteristics, their duration in vase ensures a very fresh product for a long time.
In the nutritional area, Plantex S.A., together with scientists from the Research Center of the University of Costa Rica (CIA), have determined the nutritional needs for their crops, optimizing the amounts of fertilizers, which are applied by means of drip irrigation systems, achieving thus greater efficiency in the use of fertilizers and in the irrigation water.
The post-harvest process involves several practices that they have developed including optimal hydration of cut foliage, cleaning and leaf-to-leaf treatment for optimum presentation and subsequent packaging in biodegradable “Royal Greens” boxes.
